Freedom is a word I don’t think about very often and honestly I take it for granted. This week in the US Memorial Day was celebrated and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to really reflect on the sacrifices that Memorial Day commemorates by visiting Washington DC and Arlington National Cemetery as well as many of the other national monuments. On a dreary, cold and rainy Saturday myself and some friends ventured into DC and what a special day the Lord gave us without many crowds and with much silence to pray, remember, honor and truly respect the hard earned freedom as an American I take for granted.
However, the freedom I have been given by being born in the United States is only a small glimpse of the freedom that comes from being re-born and adopted into the family of God. A friend of mine sent out a message on Memorial Day as she reflected on this and said “In light of Memorial Day & grasping the blanket of freedom under which we live, I thought I’d search verses about freedom in Christ. We all know there are great sacrifices to gain freedom. With freedom comes responsibility.” I challenge you this Memorial Day week to research and reflect upon these verses and many more about our freedom in Christ: John 8:36, Galatians 5:1, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Ephesians 3:12, Psalm 119:45, Romans 6:22, 1 Peter 2:16. This morning I am praising the Lord for the freedoms I have and for His amazing grace and mercy.
