Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through medical evangelism in The Gambia, West Africa

My story

About Alison

I love the Lord and He called me to career missionary service many years ago. After a long season of waiting where He was equipping and preparing me for ministry, I was appointed by ABWE in July 2015 to serve in The Gambia, West Africa and arrived on the field in September 2016 to begin language and culture learning.

After a year of full time Wolof language and culture learning I worked as a Physician Assistant at the Ndungu Kebbeh Health Center. Our vision has been to share the gospel of Christ through medicine to the people of the Gambia and beyond.

In 2022 the Lord led our team to step away from the Health Center which we had operated for 40 years. And, in 2023 ABWE The Gambia partnered with the Omega Foundation, a charity founded out of a Gambian led church, to increase the gospel presence and the quality and availability of healthcare provided to the 40+ communities the health center serves. If you want to partner with or donate to the Omega Foundation and the continued work of the Ndungu Kebbeh Health Center please email nkhealthcentre1@gmail.com today.

In 2023 God opened the door for me to partner with our literacy ministry and work in the field of community development with health education and prevention. We are currently exploring how God may be able to use a CHE (Community Health Evangelism) strategy for ministry in The Gambia. Each CHE lesson is community-driven, locally sustainable, contextualized for Gambian culture and integrated with physical and spiritual teachings. Pray for our team as we seek God’s will for the next steps in this new ministry opportunity. To learn more or partner with the new ministry click here.

I am blessed to be sent out in service by West Cabarrus Church of Concord, NC in partnership with ABWE (Association of Baptists for World Evangelism).

My Testimony

I became a believer later in life, at the age of 30 I found myself in a church for the third time ever. The people I met there had a hope, a joy and peace about them and I knew that I wanted that. This came from their relationship with the Lord. I surrendered my life to the Lord and followed in believers baptism. I had a passion to share this hope and joy with others. As I was sitting in a service one Wednesday night, the pastor spoke on the great commission. I had never heard of the great commission, but I wrote in my journal that night that within a year I would go on a mission trip.

Exactly one year after writing that in my journal I was on a plane headed to Guatemala. When we arrived and partnered with the missionary physicians in Guatemala I saw how they cared for their patients spiritual needs and I witnessed God move through the power of medical evangelism and I knew He wanted to use me in this way.

And then, God called me to full time ministry with an audible voice saying “you will do this full time.” I firmly believe that He does not call the equipped, but instead He equips the called. It took over 10 years of waiting before He moved me to The Gambia and career missionary service. In the waiting God not only equipped me in practical ways, He drew me into a more intimate, more dependent and more personal relationship with Him. During that season of preparation and prayer God provided an opportunity to visit The Gambia. As soon as I arrived my heart was moved by a very bold Gambian believer who proudly declared “we have the same Father”. Upon seeing her faith in Jesus Christ and her boldness, God challenged me to serve alongside of her and share with other Gambians the good news of Jesus Christ.
