Sounds of the Gambia

Life here is full of different sounds, some relaxing and pleasant and others not.  I am amazed at how quiet it can be at times and how noisy at other times.  I have learned to identify the new sounds of sifting peanuts, pounding grain, horse or donkey carts and much more. Some nights the bats seem to be competing with the donkeys to see who can be louder and other nights there is almost nothing.  However, last night was a welcome and favorite sound; rain on my tin roof!!!  It didn’t last long but it is a sign that rainy season is coming (we still have another month or two).  Praise God for a little break in the heat and the cool breeze that came with the rain.
