Independence

Today marks 60 years since The Gambia gained independence. As the country celebrates it’s Diamond Jubilee join the Evangelical Church of The Gambia in praying for this Nation today at 1pm EST. Pray for Christ to reign in this place, pray for continued religious freedom, pray for our leadership, pray for the lost around us.

Work

This week the theme of growing, stretching and trying new things continued. Anyone in ministry will tell you that your “work” is very loosely defined, very flexible and basically wherever and however God opens a door you strive to follow. This means the days may be long, the days may be hard, the days mayContinue reading “Work”

Here goes nothing!

I knew when moving into Community Development and Community Health Ministry this would involve agriculture in some manner.  God has provided us with abundant resources and for wholistic health we must tap into those.  I do NOT have a green thumb, I am NOT a gardener or farmer, I am NOT fit enough to doContinue reading “Here goes nothing!”

Investment Opportunities

This post has nothing to do with finances. I am talking about Kingdom investments, relationship investments, gospel investments. Much of my day here is spent  seeking opportunities to invest more in those around me and to point to the greatest investment of all, Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Last week, God openedContinue reading “Investment Opportunities”

Prayer Seeking

Several years ago I was challenged to change my perspective on “Prayer Walking” to be one of “Prayer Seeking”. Instead of just praying as I walked, praying AND having my eyes up, my gaze forward,  seeking opportunities to pray for people and share biblical truths. As our visiting team was here we had many opportunitiesContinue reading “Prayer Seeking”

Encouragement

As we ushered in 2025 our team in The Gambia was blessed by a visit from 4 ladies from LifePointe Church. This trip was designed to encourage our team, other Christian workers and National Believers. We still have a few days left with these wonderful ladies and I can already say I will miss them.Continue reading “Encouragement”

Christmas Rain

It is dry season in The Gambia which means our skin is cracked and sore despite putting on lotion 2-3 times per day, the air is crisp and cool, the cool shower before bedtime (no hot water heaters) is a shock to the system and leaves you shivering, and Christmas is near.  Well, Christmas isContinue reading “Christmas Rain”

Shift, pivot, stop and go

Life and ministry are always changing and when you live in West Africa the crazy WAWA challenges make things even more likely to change. This past weekend was supposed to be a routine grocery run where we head to the city on a Friday and return home to the village on a Monday. In theContinue reading “Shift, pivot, stop and go”

Ngente

I hope you clicked on this post to find out what “ngente”, a very important Wolof word means. Our language learning process is called Language Acquisition Made Practical (LAMP method) and that means you self direct and learn what you specifically need to learn. Early on it was important to learn what “ngente” meant sinceContinue reading “Ngente”

School

I am busy attending and helping organize our Adult Literacy class facilitator training. The class has been challenging and is definitely helping with my Wolof. Some days I have been so tongue tied in English that I cannot even speak my own heart language. In the evenings our class facilitators have also been learning moreContinue reading “School”
