For years, I lived my life not knowing what Good Friday meant or signified. It was a holiday before the holiday that involved getting dressed up, going out to brunch with family and hunting eggs. Don’t get me wrong, those were wonderful times with family and I cherish those memories. However, as a follower of Christ the great GOOD of Good Friday and Jesus’ amazing and humble step of obedience has changed my life.
Earlier this week a few people were asking if I was doing anything special for Holy Week and honestly Holy Week and celebrating or remembering this time of sacrifice was far from my mind. However, God in His great sovereignty took me in my chronological bible reading schedule to Isaiah 53 and the prophesy of the servant who would come to bear man’s grief and sorrows who would be wounded for OUR transgressions, crushed for OUR iniquities and upon whom would be the punishment that gives us peace and that with His stripes we are healed.
Wow, those verses stopped me in my tracks and I have spent many hours over the last few days meditating and praying on them. I also want to thank many of you on Facebook as several have been doing the James Macdonald Holy Week Journey reading and so to go a little deeper I have spent time today going through those readings and also creating a time of worship with it. Please pray as we have a gathering for our small group of believers today and remember that it is Friday, but Sunday is coming! If you have time check out these two clips which have added to my time of prayer and worship today:
