Taking things slowly and making tiny amounts of progress has been the theme of my life for the last 2 months since the accident on March 20th. However, it is important to remind myself of the baby steps that I am making and the victories. The first day after I was discharged from the hospital in London I started making voice to text notes each night of the “victories” from each day. These victories may seem small, but after laying flat in a hospital bed for 8 days they were HUGE and as I have spent some time looking at the “victories” from those early days I can really see how far I have come. I still have a long way to go, but I am definitely making progress and continuing each day to take small baby steps in the right direction. All gratitude for the progress, strength, healing, peace and joy goes to The Lord My God who is carrying me through this season.
- Eating all of my meals sitting up has progressed to sitting up for 6 hours at a time and fairly comfortably
- Using my laptop to pay one bill online has progressed to being able to use my laptop for almost an hour at a time and being able to type blogs in one sitting
- Tapping my toes to worship for an online church service (I could only make it through the songs initially and not the sermon) has progressed to attending in person, a full church service and I am still tapping my toes.
- Slicing a sandwich for myself has progressed to cooking breakfast each day and re-heating other meals
- Being out of the brace for 10 minutes max (with a timer set) to shower has progressed to being able to take a longer than 10 minute shower with no timer, no assistance and even standing for the last minute.
- A wobbly head that I had to hold up when out of the brace has progressed to comfortably sitting on the couch without my brace for up to 30 minutes.
- Pain medicines are slowly being decreased and I have had a few days where I even walked up to 6,000 steps. And, this week I made a HUGE step forward by sleeping through the night!! It felt great to not wake up in the middle of the night with pain and watch the clock to see when my medicines were due.
Although the recovery is definitely slow, I am making many baby steps and enjoying this season of seeing God work in such mighty ways. Thank you all for your ongoing prayers for healing, pain control, strength and mobility. I follow up with the doctor on June 11th and we will see what the next baby steps and goals are then.
