Shift, pivot, stop and go

Life and ministry are always changing and when you live in West Africa the crazy WAWA challenges make things even more likely to change.

This past weekend was supposed to be a routine grocery run where we head to the city on a Friday and return home to the village on a Monday. In the middle of a busy shopping day it became clear that “plans” were going to change. The vehicle we were driving had problems with the parking brake and the car went when it should not have and then would not go when it should have.

When the vehicle decides to act up and there is a looming ferry crossing and no real mechanics in our village it is much more wise to stop and get it taken care of sooner rather than later.  Shopping was abbreviated and as we adjusted our plans we received a phone call from another missionary that we have recently started working with. This misionary was nearby and wanted to come see us. So, we pivoted and picked her up after re-arranging a car full of groceries and ended up having a wonderful 2+ hour ministry meeting and time of prayer.

The decision was made to postpone our return one day and pray that the mechanic could fix the car on that day. I arrived at the shop bright and early after much prayer to explain the situation and pretty much beg him to try to get to the repairs that day. I was met by kindness and an attitude willing to try and get it done which was an answer to prayer.

If you know me at all, you know I had more than one “backup plan”. I sure was glad I did not have to pivot to the other plans as they would have been exhausting and required multiple back and forth ferry crossings.

Grateful for God’s provision and His peace and opportunity in the shifts, pivots, stop and go.
