Having visitors in The Gambia is a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. Watching new people experience the culture, the people, the language, the food, the weather, the hospitality, the daily life and the spiritual need is always interesting. Ushering visitors through these experiences can be challenging, exhausting and rewarding. We try to prepare our visitors well for the differences here and we are so appreciative when they come with a willingness to jump in while also respecting the culture and our guidance. This is a hard yet very critical balance to find in the midst of a very different culture. Each visitor that comes makes a lasting impact on the community we are ministering to and on our team. My prayer for every visitor is that this country and the spiritual needs make a lasting impact on them and that they now have a face for their prayers for the lost in The Gambia.
Over the last few weeks I have had the privilege of working alongside of an ABWE colleague who is a media specialist. I have experienced this country through a new lens; the lens of her camera. She has been working hard to capture the needs and opportunities to serve in The Gambia. It has been an adventure trying to get some shots and seeing how the Lord opened doors for the video and more importantly for relationship and ministry connections. She left here having made a lasting impact on our community and our team.
There are many opportunities to serve with us in The Gambia. I wanted to share with you a very specific need that we have and ask you to pray about this need and maybe come and serve for a few months. Email me for more information: Alison.dominguez@abwego.org
ABWE The Gambia has a guesthouse in the urban area that provides much needed rest and welcoming accommodations to our team members as well as other workers sharing the gospel in The Gambia and beyond. The team unit who manages the guesthouse and our urban ministry center will be in the US on furlough from around March 2025 – March 2026. We are specifically searching for short termers who can come and serve for at least 3 months and help manage the guesthouse and be involved in urban ministry. This is a wonderful opportunity for empty nesters or retired persons looking to serve in a different way and come alongside of ABWE teams on the field. Our guesthouse has modern western conveniences and is located less than half a mile from the beach on the beautiful smiling coast of West Africa. And, English is the national language of The Gambia making life and ministry in the urban area easy for short termers.
