Over the next month as Muslims around the world fast from food and drink from sunrise to sunset daily my blog posts will share with you some specific ways that you can be praying.
Ramadan is a holy month to Muslims and one of the 5 pillars of their faith. All Muslims who are able to are required to abstain from any food or drink during the daylight hours, many will not even swallow their saliva or prescription medications. After sunset and the evening prayer time they will celebrate with a large feast to break their daily fast. This year Ramadan will be celebrated from around March 10th – April 8th. The timing depends on sightings of the crescent moon which marks the beginning and end of the month of fasting.
As the month begins, pray for followers of Jesus in Muslim predominant countries. Pray for wisdom in how national believers here navigate this month of fasting and for us as we navigate the many questions about if we are fasting or not. A decision to fast or not is challenging, many nationals here may not be allowed to participate in the one large meal of the day if they do not participate in the daytime fasting.
