Furlough

Since being released from medical leave on August 1st, I am officially on “furlough” ministry. ABWE describes furlough ministry as “a time for raising additional funds as needed, mobilizing new teammates, meeting with Member Care for a debrief, and addressing other family or ministry needs that may arise. A healthy furlough experience will allow you to strengthen your support team, rekindle your own vision, and return to the field mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy.”

So, what does furlough look like?

  • 3 speaking engagements at 3 different churches or homes in one day to share about the ministry
  • Road trips to visit churches and individuals
  • Meetings with those interested in ministry
  • Website, prayer card and newsletter re-designs and updates
  • Lots of lunches and dinners to thank partners in the ministry and share with potential new partners
  • Webinars, Zoom or Teams meetings, emails and lots of communication
  • Lots of prayer and encouragement from the body of Christ
  • Walking into Walmart in a full Gambian outfit between meetings and definitely getting some weird looks

God has been faithfully opening doors in ministry and providing abundantly, both in opportunities to share and in financial support. Yet, the need remains for committed monthly partners who will pray and give regularly to sustain the work in The Gambia. If you or your church would like to explore how you can join us in advancing the gospel in The Gambia and beyond, I would love to connect with you.
