The Gambia is a very unique country geographically. We are the smallest land country on the entire continent of Africa and the country is divided in half by The Gambia River. I live on the North side of the river and the urban area is on the South side of the river. You have heard tales of ferry adventures and trials as well as bridge trips (driving 5 hrs to travel about 25 miles as the crow flies) and even small boat experiences. The transportation situation is now at a point where it is negatively impacting all around us and this little country needs your prayers.
Both ferry boats are currently out of service for repairs. One broke down on Friday afternoon and passengers had to be evacuated while cars and luggage still remain on board over 72 hours later. Currently, anyone who needs to travel to the other side of the river must do so via these small boats or spend a lot of money and all day traveling via taxi via the bridge. This means that people are struggling to get to work, kids are struggling to get to school, food items are not getting to our village from the other side, trucks transporting supplies are not able to travel and much more. This is more than a terrible inconvenience it is starting to impact the lives and economy of this small place.
Pray for a short term solution to this crisis as well as a long term sustainable solution. Pray for safety for those with no choice but to travel via the small boats. Pray for provision for those who are not able to receive supplies. Pray for those working on the boats, may they be skilled, wise and diligent. Pray for The Gambia.
